Research Project Already Completed under STAR Center:
Interface Virtualization (August 2007 – August 2008)
Georgia Tech PI: Kishore Ramachandran
Students: Xiang Song, Dushmanta Mohapatra
Samsung Technical POC: Sang-bum Suh
The goal of the project is to develop tools and techniques for system virtualization for supporting stateless computing. Specifically, we will move guest OSes on top of Virtual Machine Monitor (VMM) among CE devices, such as cellular phone, DTV and PMP.
It should be noted that only Xiang Song was supported by Samsung funding. The other two students were supported by funding from National Science Foundation.
Accomplishments:
- System architecture for device capability adaptation for application migration across heterogeneous platforms.
- A reference design for capability adaptation that uses the split device driver model of Xen.
- A prototype implementation on x86-Xen platform, and system evaluation.
- Acceptance and presentation of a technical paper based on the work conducted in this project in MobiVirt 2008 Workshop associated with MobiSys 2008 [Sang-bum Suh, 2008]
- Filing of an Invention disclosure [Xiang Song, 2009].
- Ph. D. dissertation of Xiang Song (graduation date: August 2007), first doctoral candidate to graduate under the auspices of STAR center (currently working for Microsoft Corp.) [Xiang Song, 2008].
